  • Q: What are the main benefits of owning an electric vehicle (EV)?
A: Electric vehicles offer a spacious, more refined drive and the convenience of being able to charge at home. As electricity supplies are increasingly delivered from renewable sources, electric vehicles offer environmental benefits over vehicles with fuel-burning combustion engines. And, as they produce zero tailpipe emissions, electric vehicles can also help reduce air pollution. These and other benefits are increasingly being recognized by local and national governments. A range of incentives is available to encourage drivers to purchase an electric vehicle. Further details are available on the Electric Vehicle Incentives page.
  • Q: What type of electric vehicle is I‑PACE?
A: The I‑PACE is a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), which means it doesn’t have a combustion engine. Instead of burning fuel (gas or diesel), power is supplied to two electric motors in the form of electricity stored in a rechargeable battery. Other types of electric vehicles include Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). These refer to vehicles that combine a combustion engine with an electric motor. A HEV typically has a small battery that is charged by the engine and regenerative braking. The vehicle has a very small electric-only range. A PHEV can also be charged from an external source of electricity. A PHEV typically has a larger battery and longer range than a HEV.
  • Q: Are there drawbacks to owning an electric vehicle?
A: The range of an electric vehicle (the distance that can be traveled before having to recharge the battery) has traditionally been a concern, giving rise to the term ‘range anxiety’. However, the latest developments in battery technologies mean that vehicles such as the I‑PACE are now a realistic proposition for most people. Many owners will find that they only need to charge the I‑PACE once a week. For long-distance journeys, a stop may be necessary to charge the battery. This may require some advanced planning, but this continues to become easier as public charging networks expand and rapid chargers increase in power.
  • Q: Can the electricity transmission network handle the increasing number of electric vehicles?
A: Motor manufacturers are working with governments and energy providers to ensure that increases in the number of electric vehicles on the road do not cause issues with electricity networks.
  • Q: Where can I find out more information about electric vehicles (EVS)?
A: Each Jaguar Retailer has an EV Specialist, who can answer all your questions about the I‑PACE and electric vehicles more generally.

RANGE

  • Q: Will an electric vehicle have enough range for my journey?
A: Range will not be an issue for most drivers. The I‑PACE has a range of over 377 km*, meaning that, based on the average commute, many owners will only need to charge once a week.
  • Q: What factors affect range?
A: Range can be affected by a number of factors, including external temperature, operating the heating or cooling systems and the speed at which you are driving. You can learn more and estimate the effects of these factors on the range of the I‑PACE by using our Range Calculator on the Range & Charging page of our website.
  • Q: Is the predicted range facility accurate for the I‑PACE?
A: The range prediction for the I‑PACE is designed to be extremely accurate. The electric motor control module will make predictions based on your current driving style and the last 800 kilometres’ average usage. The navigation system will assist the prediction of range by including data regarding the topography and speed limits of your selected route.
  • Q: If the battery runs out of charge, will the car just stop?
A: Once the battery is drained of energy, the vehicle will come to a complete halt. But before things get to that stage, you’ll receive two separate and distinct alerts. The first one, when there’s 10% of charge left in the battery, will be an audible alarm accompanied by a yellow warning triangle on the vehicle display panel. The second alert, when there’s 0% of charge, will be another audible alarm together with a red triangle. A message will then appear telling you to shut down the vehicle and pull over.
  • Q: Does driving with my lights on reduce my range?
A: The I‑PACE features LED headlights which are incredibly energy efficient, so driving with your lights on will not make any noticeable difference to the vehicle’s range.

BATTERY

  • Q: How many cells are included in the I‑PACE battery?
A: There are 432 cells in the I‑PACE battery. There are 36 battery modules and each module has 12 cells.
  • Q: What does kilowatt-hour (kWh) mean?
A: Kilowatt-hours are a measure of how much energy can be stored in a battery. For a given vehicle, a battery with greater capacity more kWh will have greater range and/or performance.
  • Q: How much does the battery weigh?
A: The battery assembly weighs 603 kg.
  • Q: Is the battery flammable?
A: The battery for the I‑PACE would only become flammable through misuse or outside intervention. Electric vehicle batteries are less flammable than gas or diesel and feature sophisticated safety systems that maintain safe temperatures.
  • Q: Does temperature affect the battery?
A: Batteries can be stored as low as -40°C, but must be plugged in and heated to -20°C before driving. In long-lasting hot or cold temperatures an electric vehicle’s range is reduced because energy is required to keep the battery at an efficient operating temperature. Energy is also needed to warm up the cabin when the temperature is low. The I‑PACE features state-of-the-art thermal management systems to optimize battery performance in warmer or cooler temperatures.
  • Q: Does the battery get hot during operation?
A: The I‑PACE has an efficient thermal management system that maintains the temperature of the battery. An electric vehicle battery will, typically, be between 15°C and 30°C, which is considerably cooler than an internal combustion engine.
  • Q: Does the battery have a warranty?
A: Yes. The I‑PACE’s battery has a 8 years or 160,000km warranty and is redeemable if the battery drops below a 70 percent state of health.
  • Q: How are batteries disposed of?
A: Electric vehicle batteries will be disposed of in line with the End of Life Vehicles Directive, relevant to regional requirements or your local market.

  • Q: How does the handling compare to ‘conventional’ vehicles?
A: Electric vehicles generate maximum torque from standstill, delivering impressive acceleration.

The battery’s location, between the two axles, also provides a lower centre of gravity and an even weight distribution for improved handling. And, without the need to package a big engine in the front, the wheels can be positioned nearer to the outermost corners of the vehicle enhancing stability and steering feel.

All of this enables a dynamic and responsive driving experience, which remains unmistakably Jaguar.
  • Q: What is regenerative braking?
A: Electric motors consume energy to provide motion. When this motion is no longer required, for example when the vehicle is slowing, the braking force can be harnessed to reverse the action of the motor and generate electricity. The electricity generated can be fed back to the battery, extending the vehicle's range.
  • Q: Jaguar vehicles have typically had different driver modes. Do electric vehicles have similar features?
A: The I‑PACE has three driver modes that can automatically adapt the vehicle settings for comfort, dynamics or range preservation.
  • Q: Can I install a tow bar to the I‑PACE?
A: No, the I‑PACE has not been designed to provide towing capability.
  • Q: Why is Jaguar competing in Formula E?
A: The FIA Formula E Championship provides us with a real life, fast-track test bed for testing and perfecting electric vehicle technologies. Because of this experience, we can bring exhilarating Jaguar performance to our next generation of road vehicles.

  • Q: Are EV's safe?
A: Electric vehicles are designed, engineered and tested to all current and proposed safety standards.

Recognized safety test procedures, certification and approval all ensure that electric vehicles are safe in a crash situation.
  • Q: What happens if I get caught in a flood?
A: The I‑PACE has a wading depth of 500mm* and features safety systems designed to deal with a flood situation.

Please exercise caution due to unpredictability of water depth in most environments.
  • Q: Can I use an electric vehicle in a car wash?
A: Yes. Electric vehicles are designed and tested to the same standards as conventional combustion engine vehicles.
  • Q: Can electric vehicles be charged in the rain?
A: Yes. Customers and bystanders are not exposed to any risk of electric shock.
