JAGUAR I-PACE CAPTURES AJAC CANADIAN GREEN UTILITY VEHICLE OF THE YEAR AWARD
(VANCOUVER, BC) – March 19, 2019 – Just weeks after winning the AJAC (Automotive Journalist Association of Canada) 2019 Canadian Utility of the Year, the Jaguar I-PACE has done it again. After becoming the first Jaguar Land Rover product to capture an overall AJAC award and being the first ever battery electric vehicle to win the honour, the I-PACE made history by becoming just the second vehicle to ever add an AJAC Green award to its overall title.
"We are thrilled that the I-PACE has been honoured once again by AJAC with the Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year Award," said Wolfgang R. Hoffmann, President, Jaguar Land Rover Canada. “This is a great testament to the team of engineers and designers who envisioned and created this remarkable machine. Winning both the overall Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year and now the Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year Award, award puts us in elite company and is an achievement we will always be proud of."
The Jaguar I-PACE has all-wheel drive performance from twin Jaguar-designed concentric motors offering a combined 394 hp and 512 lb-ft. of torque to deliver 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.8 seconds with a range of 377 km.
“This award for Jaguar proves that the I-PACE is a truly exceptional vehicle. It’s won Canada’s top award for Best Utility Vehicle, based on its merits as an SUV, and now it’s won Canada’s top award for Best Canadian Green Utility Vehicle, based on its environmental responsibility,” said AJAC President Mark Richardson, “It doesn’t get any better for the I-PACE in Canada than this double whammy."
By putting the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE into production virtually unchanged from the I-PACE Concept, Jaguar has transformed electric vehicle (EV) design. Its dynamic looks and dramatic lines combine a long wheelbase of 2,990 mm with an overall vehicle length of 4,682 mm, giving the vehicle a similar footprint to the Jaguar F-PACE, but with the interior space of a larger vehicle.
The generous interior offers 1,040 mm and 890 mm of front and rear legroom respectively and even includes clever storage areas for drinks, bottles and other miscellaneous items. With no transmission tunnel obstructing the interior space, there is room for a 12.5-litre compartment in the centre console for phones, keys and other small items. Trays built under the rear seats also provide perfect storage for tablets and laptops. The rear luggage compartment capacity of 638 litres is also larger than most medium-sized SUVs, increasing to 1,445 L with the seats folded flat.
In the past two years, four Jaguar Land Rover vehicles have been honoured with AJAC wards, in 2018 the XE was named best small luxury car, F-TYPE was named best premium sports car and the Range Rover Velar was named best small luxury SUV. In 2019 the Jaguar I-PACE was named Canada’s best premium EV.
